What types of race icons can I use to depict a race competition bar chart?

Question

I am building a chart showing the standings of a race competition. I want to show who is leading the race or who won the race. Any idea for race icons besides: horses, bikes and race cars?

track shoes; checkered flags; yellow jersey (tour de france); gold, silver, bronze medals (olympics). blue ribbon, red ribbon, yellow ribbon (country fair).  Levels on a platform: highest, step one down, step two down. Good ol' :1,2,3!
