  4. Cocktails were all the rage amongst the 'chattering classes', so dainty little   hors d' oerves were served, like caviar with tiny biscuits. Ice cream parlours were popular with all classes, so you went there for a lovely treat like a sundae or 'knickerbocker glory'. Meat paste doesn't quite have the  same 'je nais ce quois', does it?!

  5. Ginger Beer

  6. "Refreshments"? What an odd turn of phrase...if you mean snack type things...then cake, sandwiches, potato crisps (they 1st appeared at the tun of the century) chocolate.....

  7. For drinks, there was tea, coffee, home made lemonade, ginger beer and beer.Coca cola was around but not so common.  As well as chocolate and chrisps it was the time of afternoon tea with cakes - mainly home made including scones with jam and cream.  This was for the well off.  The poorer still struggled to find adequate appetising food. A treat would be bread with butter and jam - usually you had to have one or the other!

  8. we never had refreshments in my day. Why, we were lucky if we got water each day. In those days, you were so busy grafting from 3 in the  morning till 2 the next morning you had no time for them. Refreshments indeed!

  9. For cool refreshment, lemonade was served. Cold tea was also popular. Sandwiches with meat paste was part of 'refreshments'. So were cakes and biscuits.

  10. Good old British cuppa.

  11. Peppermintdrops
