What types of things do you do to lift your spirits when you are down?

When I'm depressed, I do things that temporarily (not always) make me feel better like shopping for new clothes or going to the hair/nail salon. I do these things often but at the end of the day it never really makes up for what is bothering me.

I tried working out at the gym since exercise is supposed to release happy endorphins but I don't feel any better by the time I'm done.

What are some of the things you do?

  1. Turn on music, watch a movie, play on the internet, go for a drive.


  2. I love to clean and re-organize. Its kinda like giving my house a make over. The before and after make me smile and keep me too busy to worry about problems. I also like to go get my hair cut, colored, and styled. The make over effect makes me smile.  

  3. Go to a pet store and look at puppies.  Talk to other people.  Pray.

  4. Pray and ask God to rid me of negative feelings. It works :)

  5. I try as much as possible to tune-out everything, to have a blank mind.

    I pick a word, and only think about that word without picturing it in my head.


  6. when i was really down for a few months, i just got out my notebook  put on music and wrote about what i feeled and other things that bothered me, it made me feel better  like i was moving my depression from my body to the book, try it

  7. I shop and it always works for me, haha. Better than eating I guess.
