All of humanity has never been united against a common foe. It's against human nature, and no such threat has ever really been posed.

I'd say the threat of climate change has the potential to unite humanity. An environmental disaster on the scale some are prdeciting would affect every country on Earth, and any action against it would have to be worldwide.

Of course, for much of history it has been possible for all humanity to unite.

A major external threat could do it. I know these are from the movies, but some kind of plague, asteroid or alien attack could. These examples are a but unrealstic.

Of course, it has often been showed that, when faced by a major threat, a community will turn on itself. During its decline, the West Roman Empire was often far from united against the Barbarian invaders.

When faced with an enemy, the natural response for many people is to look to their own best interests. This inevitably causes division.

I think a good example of an entire nation uniting for a single effort was Russia during the Second World War. The whole population mobilised to defeat the n**i menace, when it could just as easily of come apart.

well the modern example I can think of was the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It turned the nation almost overnight from pacifist to pro-war.

None of your examples are inclusive enough to be considered as encompassing humanity.

Fighting diseases like polio, smallpox or HIV/AIDS unite all humanity, not one nation or faction against another.
