  1. You can choose a number of study-abroad programs that will transfer credits back to your university, wherever it is. In other words, you don't have to attend a university with a program in Italy offered through its own Study Abroad office. You just have to find the program in Italy and then make sure its credits will transfer.

Here are some programs in Florence you can look through ... find some that you like, and then see if the credits will transfer to whatever home university you'd like to attend:

You can also look at getting your entire degree in Italy as an international student  ...

    Good luck!

  2. Syracuse University has a really reputable and well-established study abroad program, with one of their major locations being in Florence. I know that you can do one semester or the whole year (or 2 semesters in different cities). They really focus on cultural immersion; no matter what you are studying you will also take courses in the local language in culture.  Their Florence progam is based on homestays (with the exception of a few majors), so they'll place you with a good family.  I go to SU and I'll be studying with them in Florence in a few years, but I know the program is really popular with students from universities across the country.  Check out the website for more info: http://suabroad.syr.edu
