For my son I had to buy paper towels, sanitizer, large ziplock bags, small zip lock bags and dry eraser markers. The same things I buy every year.

  1. my mom never bought those at all lol

    Only tissue paper...

  2. Kleenex is a normal think I though, what high school teachers do now is get people to give like 50 cents and buy it for everyone to use.

  3. I also had to buy hand sanitizer, boxes of tissue, small ziplock bags,

large ziplock bags, and dry erase markers.

I had to buy triple these items because my three year old goes to preschool (they have preschool, Pre K, kindergarten,

and first - fifth grade)  at the elementary school that my two older sons go to and his school supply list was similar to his brothers school supply list.

  4. States waste so much money on inflated administrationn and other programs (such as millions on s*x offenders in CA) that they don't have money for these necessities, so teachers have to ask you for the things that don't seem directly educationally related.  Many teachers already spend their own money on supplies for their classrooms.

  5. i know how you feel.

most likely the school can't afford all that c**p,

so they make the kids bring them.

  6. You would be really surprised to see how much money it costs to run a school and expecially at the Elementary level. Teachers often spend their own money which they make very little. How do I know. I worked as one for many many years and got tired of it. I would spend most of my paycheck so my kids could have descent art supplies and other things I thought were important that the school system didn't- including cleaning supplies. Schools are some of the germiest places. Desks, chairs, cafeteria, bathrooms, etc.

It is the big wigs at the District offices that are padding their pockets with the extra moneys that do come in.

They try to spend all their time trying to diagnose children with learning disabilities just so they can get that extra $300 a day and keep sick kids in school because for ever child that doesn't attend they lose out on money. Very very sad to see what goes on behind closed doors and when they Teacher's finally get wind of really what is going on they get angry and sick of the politics and the next thing you know they are sick and tired of teaching. Teachers also have a lot of restrictions put onto them about what they can say and what they can't. They have to be very very careful for fear of losing their jobs or being placed on leave. I know I went off on a tangent- sorry!!

Yes parents are required to buy everything, but the school sinks.

  7. h**l, thats nothing! I was homeschooled Kindergarten to 5th Grade and then i went to a private school last year for 6th grade. I usually had AT LEAST 2 hours of homework every night. And it cost $400 each MONTH to even put up with that c**p. And we had to buy a binder that I never used, dry erase markers i used once, paper towels, kleenexes, antibacterial wipes, and all of our perishable books

  8. ahhh, i know how you feel. my math teacher made us bring batteries for her cheap calculators. =( i hated that teacher. lol but my school was cheap
