I commute 40 miles to work each way everyday. I need a used car that is reliable with good mpg (25-35mpg). I don't need anything fancy because I'm by myself most of the time; however, I'll need enough room to occasionally move my music gear around...drum set, bass amp, etc. And of course, if I can keep my cost under $5,000...it would be great.

  1. I love my 02 Cavalier. Gets about 25 mpg, very reliable, I never have problems with it. ANd if you need to move some of your stuff around, the back seat folds down. But a small truck might do you better for your hauling needs.

  2. I had a '98 Plymouth Breeze that had awesome room and got great gas mileage. It was a standard (manual transmission) that got about 38 MPG on the highway. One of the best cars I ever had. You should be able to find one for about $4000.

  3. A Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla would be a good choice for you. They get great gas mileage so you'll have extra cash to save. They're also pretty roomy with fold down seats in the back for your music gear. You can get one for way less than $5,000 if you look around and probably a couple hundreds or thousands less at a car auction.
