just curious as to the way birds spend their time.

anyone with knowledge could give a description as to how soon after frost they leave to go to warmer climates, where they go, when they come back, when they breed and how, what they do in the summer and fall?

  1. The majority of birds begin to moult their spring breeding plumage, like wise young birds will moult into adult plumage, some  are building up body fat, those that are migratory, will be doing both in preparation for moving to warmer area ,

During this period they tend to hide whilst moulting.

As for the rest of what you are asking it would take a long time to explain.

  2. every species of bird does those things at different times. as for after they are done breeding, they take care of their young.

  3. Migration patterns vary strongly depending on the kind of bird. Differences can be found in the amount of distance covered--compare some terns, which fly from one pole to the other, with grosbeaks, which only make short "hops" from feeding site to feeding site, but stay in the same general region year-round--and in time of arrival and departure, with some species leaving almost as soon as the chicks can make the trip and others hanging around until the onset of winter. Some species don't migrate at all, and can be found in the same place year-round. And some species that generally do migrate may include local populations that don't; these populations are usually located in warmer regions where winters aren't as harsh.

  4. Although most birds mate and have there young in Spring, migration depends on Species and where they live. Not all birds migrate but in the UK it's usually late Autumn when those that go south leave and some others arrive!

Birds do what every other creature on the planet does, they rear the young which can take just a few weeks or several months. Then they spend time looking for food to build them up and help them survive the long migrations or see them through the winter. For most creatures the search for food or the avoidance of becoming food for others takes up most of their time.
