Diana, Princess of Wales was doing her job as a royal with her charity work.  When she wasn't doing her "job" as a royal, she showed a lack of a values.

Diana, Princess of Wales, was doing her job- - but by the way in which she did it (for example focusing on AIDS patients and the fact she would actually hug these people at a time when many people were misinformed and terrified of being anywhere near someone with the disease) I think she showed an ability to have compassion and perhaps some empathy with people in very different circumstances than her own.  

Now it seems like people either act like she was a saint (which is certainly naive) or insist she was a nasty, selfish, manipulative w***e,  and attribute everything good she ever did to self-promotion  (which strikes me as unfair). Surely both extremes are inaccurate - - she certainly was not perfect but I do think she may have felt genuine compassion.
