Best bang for my buck! Used is fine, so reliable older model info would be great to!

  1. chevy silverado fuel flex

  2. chevy tahoe hybrid. big and green.

  3. What size boat?

my 16' aluminum Lund can be pulled by a small V6 powered truck but a larger heavier boat will require much more power.

What is the road like you will be pulling over? Mountainous or relatively level?

For most boats, a 1/2 ton pickup with small V-8 will be adequate, how much were you planning on spending for your tow vehicle?

There are literally dozens and dozens of vehicles that will suit your needs.

Do you have a family to bring along?

Then an SUV might be best.

  4. I've used full size Dodge Vans, for years.  You can get both 6 and 8 cylinder, and from 3/4 ton to 3.5 ton capacity.  The secret is the transmissions. I've puled 20' runabouts with the 6 cyl. 3/4 ton van and got 12-13 mpg on the road.  I've pulled 27' Sun-bridge with the 318cid and got 10 mpg, and I've pulled 32' Express cruisers, (big boat) with a 360 3 1/2 ton made for campers.  I'd get 8 MPG at 50 mph. So I'd recommend using a van, which got reasonable non towing fuel economy.

  6. How big is the boat and how often will you be towing it?

  7. All tow vehicles will suffer in gas mileage while towing a boat.  The power to weight ratio is a key factor in determining this.  If you get a more economical vehicle but then try to tow a heavy boat, your mielage will be terrible.  My advice is to get a vehicle that you are happy with for your everyday driving needs that also has an adequate tow rating.  Then, don't worry about the mileage when you are towing as it represents a small portion of your overall fuel expense.
