  1. I would buy home. It's the cheapest and you can always download stuff so it will work like pro.Check in the link for prices. Talking about hacking your computer-you can get all kinds of wirewalls and anti virus progams for Free off the net.

  2. win xp pro

  3. xp home=only if your PC is stand alone and not connected to any other computer coz its security is too low.

XP media=i advice you to not buy it..

XP pro=usually it is good for security. so, if you mind if someone want to hack your PC, better use XP pro.

  4. as Hermann said, Home can be hacked to work like Pro. If you are not computer savvy though, I wouldn't go that route. It can take a long time to find and research all the little tiny hacks you need to do to accomplish whatever you're going for, and if you don't get it exactly right you can really s***w things up.

Forget Media Center all together. Totally worthless.

If the money is not a BIG deal, then definitely go for pro. It does everything XP can do.

If money is tight, you'll be fine with home, just make sure you are security-conscious and use a good antivirus. Norton and McAfee don't count, they're mediocre at best.

    BitDefender

    Eset NOD32

    Kaspersky

    TrendMicro

get one of those if you can afford it, or look around for a good free one like Avira Antivir, AVG, Avast, BitDefender(free), etc.

You may also want to look in to a good firewall like Comodo or Online Armor Personal Firewall (probably the 2 best free ones out there)

If you want to pay for a firewall, Online Armor AV+ combines the great firewall with Kaspersky antivirus (then you don't need any other antivirus program)

  5. I'll be honest with you, I wouldn't say that you should buy it. I am sure that 'server 2003' is the best to set up.

I use ubuntu linux for most of my work, so I installed XP to use with games and 'ACDsee Pro2' which is by far the easiest and best software for advanced editing when you have 200 pictures to get off your camera...

If you choose XP, then you must get PRO - the others are crippled. Best stick to using it offline - remember it DOESN:T have office, it has NO photo editing software, in fact it comes pretty much with nothing useful installed.

If you install Windows, make sure you leave a space on the Hard Disk - around 50GB is lots....

Then download Ubuntu, as an ISO, and write the ISO to a CD, then leave the CD in and RESTART (boot from CD)

If it works, you can install (Ubuntu takes around 20 minutes on my computer). Once it reboots, it has all the drivers, it has Dictionaries, GIMP image editing, Internet browsers (Opera and Firefox are the greatest - and better on Ubuntu than with windows) Frostwire runs ten times faster here, Google Earth is just a few clicks away, gtk-gnutella for browsing/searching p2p networks, Instant messenger (Pidgin),

OFFICE - Word processor, Presentation (for powerpoint documents), Spreadsheet (like Excel)

For music, don't use iTunes - try Audacious, Audacity (edit sound files), Miro Internet TV, VLC media player, XMMS, Rhythmbox, Listen, Banshee, they're all great - organise music and download lyrics and album artwork automatically.

You should get Ubuntu free, and then think carefully if you really need to add XP to your computer - it's toooo expensive.

I unzipped a file today at home, using XP it took 4 minutes (2GB, 267 files) to my desktop. Using Ubuntu it took LESS THAN & SECONDS. Using Vista it took 17 minutes - that's funny.

No virusses with Ubuntu, no spyware, don't need to buy antivirus/antispyware/antirootkit/system settings protection.

  6. As per entertainment purpose go for Media center. if u want home purpose u can go for Home edition. In Professional we have all Full fledged options we can learn.

Better to go for Windows professional every Software will support for this CD.

    Home edition --- Less Features

Media edition --- This is entertainment purpose is killer

professional edition --- Every thing included what Microsoft Developed in the P Operating System.

    Bye
