  1. Pretty much any program would work with the VX2100, but most are not good. First of all, the VX2100 is not an HD camera; it is an excellent standard definition camera, but I still wouldn't recommend using it with Windows Movie Maker; the compression is so high, it looks like it was shot on a $200 camera. Adobe Premiere Elements is ok, but I still wouldn't recommend it. It has horrible tools that do not satisfy any serious editor's needs and it crashes whenever it is forced to handle the simplest applications.

The best consumer program is probably Final Cut Express, but that's only for Macs. Pinnacle Studio is pretty decent, but on the version I have (v9), it doesn't handle motion very well, and tends to blur. Sony Vegas is decent, but I wouldn't consider it a good deal for its price.

You'd be best off with Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, r Adobe Premiere Pro. For you, Adobe's probably the best. Final Cut only works on Macs and Avid requires a pretty narly computer. Adobe Premiere Pro runs at about $700, but there's a student discount in which is costs $350. You can also get an older version of Adobe on ebay for around $100 or so. I prefer the Adobe CS3, for a more refined, and polished interface and workflow, but something like Adobe Premiere Pro 1 or 2 would be fine; you don't need HD.

I have a VX2100 myself, and have edited on many programs; Final Cut Pro was by far my favorite, but I usually edit on Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. I was also pleased with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, and I found Pinnacle Studio 9 to be decent, with slight degredation in quality; especially in motion shots. I used the trial version of Sony Vegas, and it was about the quality of Windows Movie Maker. I also tried the trial of Adobe Premiere Elements and it was pretty useless. Avid Liquid is also no good.

    But, that's just my opinion.

btw: here's the link to the student discount store: http://journeyed.com/home.asp

    Adobe Premiere Pro for $350

it also has Avid Media Composer for $295, which is pretty insane considering it's reg. price is over $2,000. You need a pretty nifty computer though, and has the biggest learning curve of all..

Anyways, good luck and happy editing!!!
