  1. With a one way ticket it´s possible you are not allowed to enter Thailand. The Thai laws were getting more strong the last months. So good luck.

If you are arriving on a roundtrip ticket (make such a roundtrip where you can book to another day) my advise is to make a non o or b visa for 12 month. Even with the b visa there is no need to make business. Than you can stay totally up to 18 months (with 7 or 8 borderruns)

  2. A travel visa would be your best shot, it gives you the ability to stay there longer than the three months, but you just got to be careful about that as they are very strict coming in and out of thailand... they take your photo when you get there and take it when you leave!  They don't mess around, but that travel visa should cover you if you decide to stay longer than the three months.

    Enjoy!!

  3. It depends on how long you plan on staying, you can enter Thailand on the 30 day visa exemption and make two "border runs" to a neighboring country when your 30 days are about to expire and be able to stay for 90 days, however you are limited to 90 days stay in any 6 month period doing it that way. A 60 tourist visa may be be best if you plan on staying longer, you can get a 30 day extension at an immigration office and the 60 day tourist visa is exempt from the 90 day in six month rule. After 90 days, you can then either renew the 60 day visa at an embassy or consulate outside of Thailand or re-enter using the 30 day visa exemption. Most one-year visas have more rigid requirements such as marriage, retirement and work or business. Another option for a one-year visa is an education visa, many language schools offer ed. visas with a minimal amount of studying. A return or onward air ticket is one of the listed requirements for a 60 day visa, I don't know of anyone including myself who has been asked to show an onward ticket using the 30 day visa exemption. For the 60 day visa, you can always purchase an inexpensive onward ticket to a place like Penang or Kuala Lumpur toward the end of the 90 days (inc. 30 day extension) where you can try and get a new 60 day visa if you choose to stay longer.

  4. A tourist visa will allow you 60 days upon entry, which can be extended for a further 30 days at any Thai immigration office within the country (1,900 Baht charge).

So one tourist visa can last up to 90 days.

Depending on your local Thai embassy you may be able to purchase between 1-4 of these at a time($50 each), allowing at maximum 1 year (crossing the border every 90 days and visiting immigration office 60 days after each entry)

The better option is a non-immigrant O visa, if you can get issued one.

Within Asia it is classified as a marriage visa, however the further away you are the easier they are to get. Many embassies call them "visiting friends or family" and often require no documentation other than passport and visa fee ($200)

The non immigrant O allows you to enter as many times as you like for 12 months from the issue date, with 90 days issued every entry.

Ask for a non immigrant O but settle for as many tourist visas as you can get otherwise.

I have never had any problems with one way tickets, just say you are traveling by train to Malaysia.
