LibriVox is a nonprofit effort that mobilizes volunteers to record chapters of books in the public domain. LibriVox then publishes the audio files on the Internet, via its web site. The goal is to record al books in the public domain! Volunteering for LibriVox is something you can do from your home. 4. there are many site that you can volunteer within your own community, research online major social organizations that are looking for volunteers..

  5. Active hands on involvement is good but there are people who for whatever reasons can not get out and go places to volunteer and still care and want to help.  They may have small kids at home, no wheels, strange work hrs, agrifobia, be homebound through sickness or disability or caring for someone in those circumstances, and lots of etc or they may just be shy about new face to face situations.   Online and on phone volunteering is perfect for people with those circumstances.  Our ministry is blessed by someone who can not leave home often who takes care of allot of our phone calls and by a young man in Ireland who I know throuhh iljboards who is helping redesign our webpage.  He may never see GA but he will be making a big difference.  Right now we are looking for net volunteers to do two things research grant possibilities and help with medimatch. Medimatch is a new program we are doing as an affiliate of NeedyMeds that helps people who need medicines and medical supplies find patient assistance programs and foundations that help with their need.  For example this month we helped find a source of insulin for a diabetic grandma who is not able to work,  pain med for a recent widow who is disabled but not yet getting Medicare, and med for seizures, high blood pressure and liver problems for a man who was injured in a fall and can not work.   I have about 6 more to try to do in the next week.  Volunteers go into the needymeds data base and look up what programs help with that med or that disease.  They will have info on the person's medical condition and income level so they can see what help they would be eligible for but not the perspnalinfo like name, address etc to protect the client's confdentiality.   When they find what is needed they will email us with a link to the right info and to any forms that need to be downloaded or fill out a form on line to have the help application sent to opur office.   They may well save someone's life.
