  1. sign up for volunteermatch.com. They offer thousands of volunteer opportunities! U can narrow ur searches down to where u live, what area u want to volunteer in and what age group u are! it's great!

  2. The first poster had a great answer!

Unfortunately, at 14 there are a lot of organizations that won't let you volunteer. Age limit is usually 16 or 18. However, all hospitals have a "candy striping" program for high school-aged teens - I did it once a week from age 14-18 and loved it! I got to work in a few different areas of the hospital and actually still (9  years later) have a few very close friends who I met while volunteering there.

Other options are food and clothing banks as well as libraries. Many libraries have teen "page" programs, which look great on a resume.

  3. it is really nice of you to think to volunteer in this age. good luck

  4. Type in your zip code or look up your city in any of these sites:

    VolunteerMatch, http://www.volunteermatch.org

    Idealist, http://www.idealist.org

    Change.org, http://www.change.org

    CraigsList, http://www.craigslist.com

    Network for Good, http://www.networkforgood.org

    http://www.1-800-volunteer.org/

    ServeNet, http://servenet.org/

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site,

    http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

  5. you can ask your parents to help you out with this. Or actually call around to some places yourself (animal shelters are a good place to start, maybe a homeless shelter). Not sure if either of these places have age limits. Best to call and ask. Good luck.

  6. Good, But I feel you are a student?

  7. If you find a girl scout troop, they will take you in at age 14. =) Community service is an important part of scouting.  You can take a simple counselor-in-training course and work for a summer camp.

Also, if you have a sport you like to play, sport clubs or organizations (like your local ice rink or swimming pool) are often looking for junior helpers.  You can have fun while you're helping kids younger than you.

  8. A few ideas come to mind:

    - Visit the elderly at a retirement center or old folks home.

    - Help youngsters with their reading or home work.

    - Participate in the youth group activities of a local church. Our church has periodic opportunities for young people to serve.

    - Run a food drive to collect nonperishables for your local food bank. If there isn't a local food bank, start one.

    - Volunteer at the local office of the political candidate or office holder of your choice

    - Bring coloring books and Crayons to the pediatrics ward of your local hospital and visit with the children there.

The bottom line is to find something you enjoy, and then create a way to do it if it doesn't already exist. At 14, you are capable of doing many things!

    I hope this helps.
