What volunteering jobs can you do at Children's Hospital?

I want to volunteer at a hospital (more specifically Children's Hospital of Wisconsin). I want to know what are typical positions or jobs that a 17-year-old can get?

I'm a Certified Nursing Assistant...not sure if that makes a difference and will be an Assistant Child Care Teacher by June 09 if things go as planned.

Thank you!

  1. filing or you can probably watch the kids and just play with them.

  2. you can be a candy stripper...my mom did it and she still has her cute uniform lol...no you do not strip...you play with kids while they are waiting.  if you know a doctor at the hospital, you can ask if you can sort of intern with them good luck.

  3. wow with a c.n.a. you can do a lot of things.

you can even get a paid position there.

voluntarily,  you can read books to the kids, help them to relax, do arts and crafts, etc.

  4. I know that in my local hospital you can do the following:

    Courtesy Program

Volunteers provide directional assistance to patients and family members looking for specific areas in the Health Centre. They act as personal escorts when needed, and remain with the patient/family member according to the needs of the situation.

    Emergency

Volunteers act as the liaison among patients, family members and staff. They provide emotional support and assist with the communication of non-medical information.

    Mealtime Host

Volunteers visit with patients over the lunch and dinner hours to provide company and support that help make the mealtime a pleasant experience.

    Gift Shop

Volunteers provide customer service to patients, visitors and staff.

    Support Volunteers

Volunteers provide emotional support and assist with the communication of non-medical information in a wide variety of departments (Diagnostic Imaging, Cystoscopy, Endoscopy, Family Medicine, Surgical Family Waiting Room and Women's Health Centre).

  5. well my older sister was a volenteer so she's working on becoming a nurse

  6. You can probably be a child life volunteer.  They are the people that run the playroom (and do much more).  The volunteers typically play with the kids and keep them company when their parents aren't around. It can be very rewarding.
