Question:

What wagon or stroller is best for a 5 year old?

We're going to Disney and I'm wondering what stroller or wagon might fit her. She's almost 50 pounds and around 45" tall. She doesn't fit in her old stroller and I think it will help her stamina.

I've seen the safari one with the canopy which would be great in FL, but will she fit?

Any good deal out there?

Thanks!!

  1. I would suggest renting a stroller at the park. A couple of year's ago, we took my kids. My daughter was 5 and while walking around wasn't an issue. With the long lines and a long day, a rented stroller help get from one end of the park to the other.

If you are staying for a few days, the park has a system that you pay for your stay. When you enter the different parks, you show your receipt and pick up a stroller.

Unless, you live near to the park I would not bring a wagon or stroller.

  2. When going to Disney you Do need a stroller!

Its hot as hades here and its crowded and hard to stay together. We used one until about 6y/o I think. I mean you have tons of stuff to carry and even when the kid walks you can use it to hold items.

The rental ones a Disney are not so great either. They lack good cup holders. aren't made for napping ,etc.

I don't know if you should buy a stroller if your not having more kids though, might be a waste of money.

If you get a wagon you'll need one that's not to large for the parks. One of the parks here has wagons they rent but I can't remember which. Don't think its Disney since I visit there only when we have company. The Universal parks are lots more fun I think. Of course every child should see Disney. The fireworks are great.

You should check their web site and see if they rent wagons or maybe have gotten new strollers.

Be prepared with sunscreen and hats also. We lose a lot of tourist to sunburn here.

    Enjoy.

  3. You can probably rent strollers at Disney, but truthfully I think that a five year old is too old for a stroller.  My daughter flat-out refused to go in one after she was four, because in her words, "They're for babies!"  Your daughter is also too large for any stroller on the market today.  A child her age should have no trouble walking around Disney.

  4. Hi there.  We went to Disneyland when my girls were 5 & 3.  We were concerned about the same thing, even though my oldest was saying she would walk, etc.  We rented a stroller at the park for my youngest, as well as to cart around our bag with water and sunscreen, etc.  It was extremely nice, especially when navigating through the large crowds.  That was four years ago and it was about $8.00 for the day, and you got a card with your name on it and you could turn the stroller in at the gate if you were switching parks (or going to take a nap or break) and you could just bring the card with you to get another one when you were ready.  They aren't the most comfortable things in the world, but do have plenty of space to hold bags, extra items, and a shade to cover the kids.  My oldest ended up wanting to sit in it as well, so we got two strollers on one of the days since the "taking turns" thing wasn't working out so well all the time LOL.  All in all it was a great deal because you didn't have to worry about a stroller fitting in your vehicle, or what to do with it in between time, etc.

Don't spend the money on going out and buying something just for the trip, unless you are planning on having more children and would get the extra use out of it.  Disney's strollers will work just fine for you and are definitely worth the few extra bucks you pay to rent them for the day.  I think they may even have a 2 or 3 day rate as well...there should be info on their website.

Ignore all the other people on here that are commenting that your daughter is too old for a stroller.  It will definitely be beneficial when it comes to going around the Disney parks.  It WILL help her stamina and will keep you from having to hear her feet hurt after the first hour when you are walking to and from attractions.  It will also keep you from having to carry her, LOL.

Good luck and have a great trip!!!

  5. I honestly don't think a 5 year old needs a stroller anymore.

  6. I think at 5 years, you are not going to use the stroller or wagon that much - skip it, unless there is a physical reason for it.  She's too big for a stroller and a wagon won't be easy to lug around on the trams, etc.

Bring a back pack with the extras that you may need and rest when everyone is tired.  At 5 years they have more energy then us when it comes to Disney World - You may want a wagon for yourself! :)

  7. I think you can rent them there.

  8. we live in myrtle beach so we are always out doing stuff.  my 4 year old hasnt used a stroller in years, and my 2 year old is using hers less and less.

youre better off just taking your time, and taking breaks so you dont all get worn out.

  9. I would recommend a wagon instead of a stroller just because your child will fit into it better, you can still use it to transport whatever you need to carry around with you, they are usually cheaper than strollers, you can but them with sun shades and you can still  use it regularly when you are at home for walks and things like that. Radio Flyer makes good ones. You can find them on my online Toy store. Good luck!

  10. First, check with the park, I am pretty sure that the one in CA only allows strollers, not wagons, FL may have a similar policy.

I agree that you should not listen to those who tell you your child is to old. We took our then 4 1/2 yo to Disneyland. We did not even bring our stroller because she hadn't been in one in ages! One hour in, I could not rent one fast enough! In CA (this was a few years ago) it was 8-10 dollars or something, but it made our trip so much better! It also helped that I knew where she was at all times!  :)

Good luck! Have a fun and safe trip!
