Where did it get its name from? Links would be great, but if not, it's okay.

  1. It was named after the wine that is grown in the region.

  2. Bordeaux was founded 23 centuries ago under the name of "Burdigala" ( latin ) by a Gallic tribe called the "Bituriges Vivisques" (the "displaced Bituriges"), who were a people originaly settled around the city of Bourges (center of France)

  3. No way

Bordeaux sound like bord (hedge) d'eaux (of waters), but this isn't the solution either.

The romans called it burgalia which is likely to come from the Basque language (sorry don't know the English for this people who lives in north east Spain and south west France). It meant iron (Burdi) and cast iron (Gala). The city was existing at the bronze age, which could be a hint for such a nome.

However, this is only assumed and the precise ethymology for this name is not sure.
