What was McCAin thinking when he chose a woman as his VP?

My actual question is that I want someone to type out what was the dialogue going on in MCCain's mind when he decided to choose a woman as his running as opposed to say choosing Romney with all of his popularity with conservatives and actual "economic expertise"?

So what do you think is the big strategic advantage that mccain thinks his choice will bring to the ticket? rallying the evangelicals? whipping the ultraconservatives into a frenzy? satisfying the foregin policy hawks?

  1. It seems McCain is trying to pick up "emotional voters."

He seems to hope that, by picking a woman VP, he can grab up the Hillary voters.

However, what he's not taking into account, is that the majority of the people supporting Hillary liked her Washington experience, and that she has a strong personality.

Some of the dems don't like Hillary because they didn't want a "dynastic" rule in Washington (Bush, Clinton, Bush, Bush, Clinton), and some dems will mostly stick to the dem ticket.

It's a risky position for McCain to take, and this will only appeal to voters who vote using their emotions, or who just want to see a woman in office - not people who decide based on experience... Palin is no Hillary.

At the same time, this may scare away the men who don't want to see a woman in power - something that many men grumbled about when it came to Hillary...

This election is like a circus. Either way, the outcome will be interesting... Especially if McCain kicks the bucket while in office...

  2. My wife works at the U.S.P.S. break bulk post office and she says every woman there is now supporting McCain due to his VP pick. There is a lot of women working there.

  3. ALASKAN OIL!!!

  4. McCain just lost my vote by pandering to a fringe minority.  Even though I've been a McCain supporter since before the primaries, I can't in good concience vote for someone that would put political stunts ahead of the interests of the country.

I'm not really an Obama fan, but McCain's just not an option anymore.

  5. Well, according to Palin's Wikipedia profile, while Mayor of Wasilla (population 6,000 or so) she went toe to toe with a dairy farmer to close down a local creamery!

I think McCain figured he could highlight that as "experience" or grit or something.

Also, she was Miss Wasilla and Miss Congeniality, and that probably impressed McCain.

Plus she has a B.A. degree, so she's educated.

What more do you want in a V.P. who will be a heartbeat away from the most powerful position on Earth?

  6. It was simple. He needed someone the evangelicals would vote for. For this reason he could not chose a Mormon or Jew. At the same time he needed someone that wouldn't drive away the moderate Independents so he couldn't pick Huckabee. By choosing a radical conservative "token" woman he satisfies the evangelicals and gives the Independents the illusion of "change" to combat Obama's.

It will, however, not work in the end.

  7. it explains exactly what he was thinking in his own words right here:

  8. "Well I know that nobody likes me, not even the Pubs really.  They'll vote for me just because Obama's Black but that may not be enough when they come to grips that I'm just old and been in the senate 20 years but really only experienced at being grumpy. So I've got to do something to shore up the votes.  That's right, Hil's votes are out there and if I can just find a way to get my hands on those I think I can squeak through.  HEY, GET SARAH ON THE PHONE!!!

Now let's see them Dem women chose between a Black and a woman!   d**n! I hope this works!"

Walt Disney Frozen Head   STOP IT! JUST STOP IT NOW!!!

    That was LOL

  9. He wasn't thinking.   It sounds good - woman, governor, union member, soccer mom.    It was a big mistake.

Maybe at the convention they will change his running mate and we can have a better election.

  10. I think perhaps  he might have been saying to himself..." there are a lot of Hillary voters out there.. and women, that have been snubbed by the egomaniac who is the Democratic nominee... and since I have to appoint someone anyway.. why not a woman.  She's smart, she's bright.. she has taken on the oil companies and is still standing"

And to my way of thinking he thought well.  As a frustrated Hillary voter, I was about to choke on the fact that I would have to vote Obama... but McCain has given me a whole new light on him.  I do not blame him for Bush.. and I don't think he will be Bush.  SO I feel quite confident in going with him.

Obama elicits no confidence to me... he is a no nothing empty suit with a way with words.. and no plan.. no matter how he makes it sound.  He thinks he is going to tax big corporations and take from them and give to the poor.. Good luck with that.. they will stomp on him like a fly.

I will take my chances with someone with experience.!!!

  11. McCain wanted a balanced ticket, just like obama did.

She is a very exciting and rising star in the GOP.  She will rally at least half of the Hillary supporters to vote for McCain.

She also has more experience than Obama.

She actually has a track record of making changes, while Obama and Biden don't.

    Great pick!
