The Scottish player who was born in 1821 and died nearly 90 years later in 1908 was one of the most remarkable golfers in history, for many reasons - not least the fact that his son Young Tom Morris was the youngest ever winner of the Open, while he was the oldest ever winner. But possibly his most famous victory came at the Open in 1862 - for what reason?

    That was the year he won by 13 strokes - a record winning score in a major that stood for nearly 140 years, until Tiger Woods bettered it at the 2000 Open. Old Tom won four opens in total.
