  1. Princess Diana's maiden name was Spencer as when her grandfather died her father became Earl Spencer and she became a "Lady".

As a titled royal since birth Charles does not technically have a surname. However, when required (for his marriages) he used the name Mountbatten-Windsor and has indicated that the royal House may change upon his ascension to the throne

  2. Diana Spencer.  She was a very distant cousin of Winston Spencer Churchill.  Her father was the Earl Spencer,(in this case,no "of")  and she was the Lady Diana Spencer. If it had been a Scottish earldom, and if she were the only heir to her father, upon his death she would have assumed the title Countess Spencer, but in England, only men inherit...except in royalty...(there's an exception for every rule -- a real muddled mess. That's why the College of Heralds charges hundreds of pounds for the slightest service! If you had formally asked the College of Heralds this question, you would have had to take out a loan!)

The Prince of Wales, Charles, her husband), like a slave, has no last name.  Supposedly, his family name is Windsor, or Windsor-Mountbatten, but there is some confusion about it. Their sons, Harry and William, when serving in the military bear the last name "Wales" -- but that is merely for the convenience of record-keeping. It gets even better. A General who is also a Royal Duke is addressed as Your Royal Highness, Sir. (No rank), even by a Field Marshal, who ranks higher than a General. . A General who is also a garden-variety Duke is addressed as Your Grace, Sir. (No rank), if a F-M addresses him, it is usually by his Rank, but occasionally by his nickname, since they probably went to school together. .

  3. Diana's maiden name was Spencer.

Charles does not have a surname. His formal name is His Royal Highness The Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester, Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles, Prince and Great Steward of Scotland, Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Great Master and First and Principal Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Member of the Order of Merit, Knight of the Order of Australia, Companion of the Queen's Service Order, Honorary Member of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, Chief Grand Commander of the Order of Logohu, Member of Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council, Aide-de-Camp to Her Majesty.

He signs his name Charles P, and would not use a surname.

  4. Spencer.

As the daughter of an earl, she was entitled to the title of Lady. Thus her formal name was Lady Diana Spencer.

She only had one husband, Charles, Prince of Wales, whose surname is Mountbatten-Windsor.

  5. Lady Diana Spencer.  HRH Prince Charles's family name is Windsor.

  6. Diana Frances Spencer

Royals do not use surnames the way commoners do.They use Royal House Names or Titles Names which can be used as last names. Charles is of The Royal House of Windsor. He can also use the combination of both parents' names: Mountbatten-Windsor.
