  1. He was awarded an honorary knighthood as he's not actually a British citizen.

He was recognized for his services to broadcasting, but is not eligible to be knighted as he's Irish and not English and cannot be called "Sir Terry Wogan".

Bill Gates also has an honorary knighthood.

  2. For being a harmless old fool.

  3. Firstly he wasn't knighted with sir, upon being Knighted if you are a British or Commonwealth citizen you become "Sir". The female equivalent is "Dame"

He was knighted for services to Broadcasting, anyone who knows a little about him knows he has been a very successful TV and Radio presenter for years. I first remember him presenting the Quiz show Blankety Blank, followed by his chat Show "Wogan" which was replaced with "Eastenders"

  4. It beats me!!!!

Perhaps they ran out of corrupt politicians and lazy civil servants that year.......

  5. They give knighthoods to anybody these days, mostly undesrved (as in this case)  rock stars who shake their buts and ya ya ya at everyone. Footballers, who's only qualification in life is to kick a bag of wind accross a field

and pull their shirts over their heads.  In short, all but those

    who deserve it!

  6. Isn't he the sarcastic, bitter foreign music hating chap who talks over everyone at Eurovision ?
