  2. Major Robert Anderson was the pro-Union, Kentucky native, West Point graduate who surrendered Fort Sumter at the start of the American Civil War as well as the commander who took re-command of Fort Sumter at the end of the War.

    Anderson was the great grandfather of actor Montgomery Clift (his mother was Ethel Anderson) as well as a first cousin, twice removed to William Clark and George Rogers Clark (of the Lewis and Clark Expedition).
