What was so feared? What did people do? I wasn't really around then.

in 19 th century wat happen is that in 1999

after 1999 the year comes is 2000

but in 19 th century they gave proggrame to computer to change only last two digits. so , according to computer the next year of 1999 is 1900. so if it happens like this they will losse full data, to recovery this one they found the solution is Y2K that is (YEAR) (2) (OOO)

It was the turn of the century, going into 2000 years...plus people thought computers and electronics would crash...I actually don't remember, I was in the second grade and to busy with second grader things to care.

Y2K is short for Year 2000.  The big fear was that computers and micro chips would lock up or crash because when computers were invented in the 1950's, no one ever thought to make an adjustment for 2000, since all computers used two-digit years.

The big issue was that when 1999 ended and 2000 began, that the computers would see the year go from "99" to "00".  They worried that the computer would interpret the "00" as being Zero instead of 2000.

As it turns out, nothing happened!
