  1. My friend is from Brazil and lives in Brazil. He told me Bahia is poor and Sao Paulo is the richest state. Rio de Janeiro has a lot of tourist attraction plus it is richer than Bahia, so if I was you I would go to Rio. I personally would go to Sao Paulo, but hy it is your choice!

  2. Been to Rio twice and although people say it's a dangerous place, with street muggers and stuff like that, I never experienced anything negative there. it is a magincal place, with nice smiling people. The sugar loaf's view is breathtaking as is the statue of Christ the Redemeer. The food is a bit spicy but it is ok and caipiriñas are simply great to drink (although a bit strong!) Bahia is a completely different place, it's more of an authentic place, with magic and witchcraft in the air. It is specially great to visit during carnival time where people dance in the streets all day.

In Rio (or any place in the world) just stick to tours, dont walk alone at night (specially in Copacabana) and try to stay in Ipanema or Leblon which are better neighbourhoods. Just dont flash your camera and take as little cash as possible, stick with credit cards as they are easily cancelled and reported and replaced. In Rio take BTR tours to Buzios, Angra, Petropolis, etc. They are the best tours.
