What was an item that you couldn't live without during your pregnancy?

I am planning on opening a maternity store where I live and was wondering if there was something out there that maybe not a lot of people know about, or something that should be sold in a maternity store that isn't. Thanks so much for your input!

  1. condoms! ha ha. only joking. i couldnt live without my heart burn tablets because i got alot of that and really needed them also a fan for the bedroom to cool people down because i used to get really hot (hand held ones at the check out would be good because it would be a real good impulse buy for hot and bothered shoppers). also weird shaped pillows to help get comfortable while pregnant and breast feeding

  2. I have to agree with alot of these especially flip flops but maybe ones with a supportive arch or something since your not treally suppose to wear flat shoes while pregnant... However the biggest thing that i wish stores would sell are Bras bigger than a size D... This is such a pain but before becoming pregnant i was a D sometimes DD and now im a an E and let met tell you i have not found one store that sells a bra in a size E and it is very uncomfortable especially right now that im 38weeks and squeezing my chest into a 40 DD normally im a 36 so i thought getting bigger around would help but no they still hurt really bad...

  3. I know at motherhood/mimi they have these tummy bands (not sure of the "brand" name) that allow your normal pants to be worn unbuttoned during the earlier stages of pregnancy, when maternity pants are still too big.  I wish I would've bought one while I was there (the nearest maternity store to me is at least 2 hours away).  They do have small maternity sections at Kohl's, Penney's, ElderBeerman, and Old Navy but none of them carry those belly bands!  lol, as you can see, i suffer from "shopping regret."

Also, maternity clothes geared toward smaller women.  I wear a junior's size 3 when not pregnant, so I swim in even a "small" pregnancy pant.  I had to buy small petite at motherhood but they're actually a bit short.  Then you go up to normal small and suddenly they're 6 inches too long.  I can't take it.  Where is the in between?

  4. My body pillow! I used that thing through my pregnancy and then later for breastfeeding, and then even later as a barrier to keep her from rolling off the bed.  I am a larger-then-average woman (6 feet tall, 140 pounds) so a Boppy didn't really work for me, but a body pillow was awesome.

Gin-Gins (ginger hard candies) were also a god-send.  I thought that Preggo Pops were gross, but I could eat the Gin-Gins.

I also had a horrible time finding pants and shirts with legs and arms that were long enough (see my height and weight above, lol).  It's kind of a niche thing, but it would have been nice to be able to find shirts and pants that fit!

  5. I recently had a baby. I suffered from back pain. I think you should offer back braces, long soft pillows, comfortable shoes, and oxygen:)

  6. my mom liked pumpkin ice cream

  7. That's a hard question! Maternity stores usually sell most things that pregnant people need that I can think of... I have a hard time finding "lounge around" clothes. Not pajamas, but you know, like comfy maternity shorts to wear around the house. The ones that I find online seem expensive!

  8. Mines was very basic and that item is flip flops!!!!! I have such a hard time bending to tie laces or buckle buckles. I am not even that big so go figure lol. good luck

  9. I discovered this item for help with pants. they look like tube tops but are used to hold up pants that are two small ( u can leave them unbuttoned) or maternity clothes that are too big at the time . its called "bella bands". They can be used after pregnancy as well. They're great!!!

  10. Several Things: some I found some i didnt find

    1. Body pillow with cover that was not velvet or fleece or ugly.

    2. More styles pregnancy underwear that arent ugly.

    3. Pregnancy cook books, or books of foods that are unusual that people crave during pregnancy.

    4. many accesible bathrooms in your store(every store i went to didnt have one)

    5. Some cute After Pregnancy Mommy clothes (like for after the delivery a shirt that says I delivered a _____ who weighed ____lbs and was _______ inches long.)

    6. some pregnancy shoes. some that are not ugly but comfortable.

    good luck on your store!!!

  11. Hmm.. thats tough. Most places sell the stuff I need. But I can't live without my heartburn tablets! Aslo, it is kind of hard to find "comfy clothes". Like just to hang around the house in. Not jeans, but not PJ pants... just like comfy pants and tank tops or cute shirts.

  12. My one item is my body pillow, and my flip flops.  My feet swell really bad, so flip flops are amazing!!  And I agree, big bras are a must! I had to find even a 40D at Walmart and they only had 1 rack with bras over size 38C.  I was so angry!  Also some plus size maternity clothes.  The only couple places I found to get some were online.  I mean plus size, not just sizes 2-16.  Hope that helps!!  Good luck!!

  13. i think there should really be a nice selection of maternity lingerie. I'm a lover of colorful frillies, and i still wear them for my hubby even now, at 38 weeks. Some men find a pregnant lady verrrry s**y and i just happened to be married to one of those men and most of my lingerie is just bigger sized and loose around the tummy. I think they should have it at maternity stores because  its not something you really think about, aqua and black frilly s**y things while pregnant but it really does WONDERS for your self esteem. Maybe im the only person who likes to get lacy while pregnant, but its fun. good luck with your store!

  14. stretchmark cream

    chocolate (haha)

    maternity shoes

    idk maybe

  15. BELLA BANDS!

In a variety of sizes and styles!

None of the maternity stores around here carry them, you can only get them online.

They're the maternity bands that allow you to wear pre-preg jeans unbuttoned, and then later hold up too-loose maternity pants. They're amazing.

If you can get Ginger Altoids, they help with morning sickness, and are hard for pregnant women to track down.

They'd be a very good thing to sell at the register.

    Cute maternity underwear.

    Cute body pillows.

  16. those rice bags you can throw in the microwave. they really help for leg cramps. and back/neck aches

    antacids

    stretch mark creams

    body pillows

  17. The item I couldn't live without was flip flops. I hated flip flops before i got pregnant but they were a godsend during my pregnancy. One thing that i had so much trouble finding was bras. I have a very big chest, 38DD before I got pregnant, and 38DDD after I got pregnant. I had to go and get a bra specially made. That made me so mad.

  18. OMG!!! Hands down....Has to be my flip flops!! Of course its summertime, I don't know what I would do if I had to tie my shoes everytime....I cant reach my feet!! Flip flops for sure. Good luck!

  19. I always found getting s**y maternity underwear a real hardship. Something that doubles as a nursing bra would be great.

  20. Fully body pregnancy pillow. I could NOT sleep comfortably without one.

  21. Body pillows!- No fluffy hot material, something like cotton that wont make you even hotter, and something soft that doesn flatten out because of the baby weight lol.

Shoes- They were so hard to find, they were either ugly or pretty and uncomfterable

Clothes- it is so expensive when your pregnant!

  22. Great question!  I beg of you, please be generous in the sizes of clothes and nursing bras you carry.  I have a large chest and so many of the maternity tops out right now are empire waisted--a lot of my cut right across my bust (not a good look)!  I'm also finding it nearly impossible to find a nursing bra larger than a D cup.

Also, I'd love to find a store that carries pregnancy pillows for back trouble--normal pillows don't cut it and I'm wary of ordering online without actually seeing and touching the product.

My doctor also showed me an order form for tummy slings (not sure what they are called) to help with back pain.  It would be great if stores carried them so expectant moms could try them before they buy them.

Best of luck with your store!  I wish someone in Indy would open one!
