What was childhood like during the Revolutinary War?

I was just wondering, because for a story I'm writing, the two main characters are a girl and boy who are both 16 during the Revolutinary War, on the side of the British.

I'm trying to make it as authentic as possible, so any info about childhood lifestyles, customs, even dress would be really helpful.

Well, childhood was different for many different people, depending on where they lived, how much money they had, and other such factors.  

I would suggest going to a library and doing some research.  You'll find much better results with much more credible sources.
