I am in St. Louis MO. Last weekend around dusk; I saw what I perceived to be a satellite. It seemed stationary. It was located in the eastern sky around 6:3pm -8:00pm CST..It seemed to have a tail and was lit up. Was it the SPACE STATION?

  1. If it remained more or less stationary for a period of time, then it wasn't the Space Station or any other satellite. These would have moved out of sight within a few minutes. If it was a naked-eye comet, you can be sure that many of the people giving answers on YA Astronomy & Space would have heard about it. I would think it was most likely the planet Jupiter, which is in the southeast in the early evening (but not as early as 8 p.m. when it's still daylight). It would have been easily the brightest object in that area of the sky. It doesn't have a tail, but thin cloud might have given it that sort of appearance.
