What was grown on palantations in JAMAICA? And who worked on them?

Crops such as sugar and coffee were grown on the plantations.  The plantation owner and family lived in the Great House.  Many of these are still standing and some can be toured.  Slaves were brought from Africa to labor in the fields.

mostly sugar cane was grown. slaves from Africa worked on the plantations. Jamaica was first ruled by the Spaniards before being taken over by the British.

Like in most of  the Caribbean countries, they started  to grow and make money with coffee. But later one they switch to sugar cane. As a result coffee planters move to the mountain and sugar cane farms were established in the valleys. There was also some revenue that was made from the exploitation of tobacco.  As you know slaves who were brought from Africa are the one who worked  on the plantations. In addition to that there were some white people who came to the colony for free but had to work ON the plantation for a certain period of time I think that it was 3 years but I am not sure. After that they were free to start their life. The work they did  was to reimburse their trip in the Atlantic. If they are lucky, they got a piece of land from the master. I am not sure of the spelling in English but they were called something like "indenture " slaves. Of course they had a higher position than the black ones in the society.
