  1. Greed and lust for power....

Started with Adam an Eve and has continued until today.

  2. Consideration. we never consider consequences, we never consider other ppls feelings. we dont even consider our own earth before we do things

  3. There is no major one except that the heart of mankind bears few surprises and does no more than what he was intended to do -- to make mistakes and learn.

  4. Being different, and subsequently believing that everyone else has to be exactly like we are.

Notice that each war is started by people who have differing opinions or beliefs. Every fight, every argument, every anything is started by people being different. Not to say that being all the same would be any better.

  5. The theocrats, such as some of the answerers above. They breed

at a very high rate, as if they are atheist evolutionist genetic

determinists, but they use doublethink to breed despite being theist

creationists. They breed like flies and overpopulate the earth, and

in so doing they spread their genes of opposition to population

control, such that the problem grows in magnitude exponentially.

There are even heavy-breeding mexican theocrats that are invading

the United States in the millions. They ARE the plague of locusts

that they warned about. The only way to stop them, and to institute

population control, is for atheists to breed just as much as the

    hard-core theocratic breeders.

  6. We listened to the serpent when he lied about our own ability to replace God.  As soon as we realized our folly, we felt shame, guilt and fear.  These character defects drive all of our selfish behavior.  We then began to play the blame game to alleviate our insecurities, and have been doing it ever since.

  7. What causes society to tear itself apart is the everlasting need for "more". We all have an insufficiency complex which leads us to desiring too much, and (as Buddhists would put it), causing pain to ourselves or to others.

    That's my small synthesis.

  8. Weakness. From the beginning people have frequently given in to their petty fears and desires, and it has led them to do terrible, destructive things. Sometimes it's on a mass scale, like war, sometimes it's more personal.

But in the end as long as we are so weak we will never be as great a species as we like to believe.

  9. Nuclear weaponry and capitalism.

The world possesses enough nukes to destroy itself many times. Capitalism leads to competition and abusing people in developing countries to produce their goods for a much much much lower pay.

The two of them just points to greed in wealth and power.

  10. Power, the wish to have ultimate freedom and control over others and ourself. Notice how the rich and famous never have "enough"?

It is really the need for love, which can be simply fulfilled by knowing that there is a G-d who loves us no matter what.

    Nuff said.

  11. Lawyers.

  12. Liberalism, communism, and/or socialism

  13. The Supreme Court in 2000 and the election results in 2004.

  14. Pride

    Wanting to be in control

Desire to be the ones in charge

    Pride

  15. An inherited tendency to wish not to retain the knowledge of God in our conscience,  and do what is right only in our own eyes (Pride and Lust).

You know, "Throw your hands in the air...and wave 'em like you just don't care..."

    Earf!

  16. Our brains are overdeveloped.  We think too much.
