  1. my wedding is going to be the worse day of my life because i am so fat. i mean, i'll be happy of course to marry the love of my life, but there's going to be a gray storm cloud hovering over everything because i hate my body.

    the actual wedding though will be held at a reception hall. there will be 125 people. my aunt made all the center pieces. my dress is form fitting and costs a good $1200. The hall is $1,000, my cake is $200. We're going to write our own vows and though I was intially planning to get hair extensions, I want my own hair now.

  2. Oh yay fun question!

    Been planning for over 20 months. My fiance proposed christmas night 2006! I got my dress a month later (we didn't set a date until August of 2007. My fiance set the date for 08/08/2008 as a "birthday gift".

    My fiance and I wanted to either get married in Hawaii like my parents did or do Las Vegas. My mom would have none of that. My fiance and I are not particularly religious although we believe in god more than anything. We did not want a church wedding! We wanted a wedding that was surrounded in nature. My fiance and I are from Iowa but live in PA. The wedding is in Iowa so all the planning yas been long distance. We picked Embassy Suites because they have an atrium with palm trees, man-made waterfalls, and a huge skylight. That's where the ceremony & reception will be. My favorite flowers are Orchids & Lily's! So my mom spared no expense one huge amounts of white Orchids and Calla Lily's.

    Here's a price up....

    Ceremony and reception at Embassy Suites in Des Moines (catering and alcohol included. Also comes with white glove service, honeymoon suite for bride & groom, and webpage) - $9,225.00

    Flowers (my bouquets like Eva Longoria's but with a splash of small purple Orchids. Includes centerpieces which are long crystal flute vases with white Orchid sprays on half the tables and cylinder vases filled with water submerged purple orchids and floating white candles on the other half. Also, Orchids for the cake and flower girls.) - 2,755.00

    My dress & veil - $1,200.00

    My shoes (originally bought a pair or $290.00 heels but the dress shop ordered my size 2 dress with 3 inches cut off for SOME reason so I couldn't wear them so I went with a pair of crystal flats from Wet Seal) - $15.OO

    Jewelry - all heirlooms from my grandmother flying the in from Puerto Rico and gifts my fiance has given me over the years) - nothing

    Toasting flutes (mom got me the crystal ones as a gift) - $425.00

    Fiances wedding band (he likes "tough" manly things so he wanted tungsten so was fairly cheap) - $275.00

    Engagement photos with hard cover book of prints - $250.00

    2 engagement announcements - $40.00

    Marriage Application fee - $35.00

    DJ (been friends with these guys sense grade school. They had to contract other gigs out to do mine :S) - $635.00

    Photographer (good friends with prof. photographer asked him to do it for $1k, he agreed, then canceled 3 months before the big day! So best friends mom who is also professional offered to do it as a gift!) - Ended up FREE!!!

    Attendants gifts - $700.00 to $800.00

    Flower girls dresses/shoes - $500.00 for 2 sets of each

    Jr. Bridesmaid dress - $135.00

    All other bridesmaid dresses - $179.00 each

    Tuxes - $114.45 each (5 people)

    Cake knife, guest book, unity candle set, candle holders - $125.00

    Linen rentals - $150.00

    Pillar rentals - $200.00

    Mom making ceremony decorations herself (including personalized isle runner) - $300.00

    Wall of lights and "ceiling of stars" at reception - $250.00

    Moms dress/shoes - $350.00

    Hair (trials and updo's the day of for 5 people) - $200.00 (she's a good friend).

    Makeup artist for 6 people and tough ups - $350.00

    Blocked rooms for guests - $1,200.00

    Invitations (best friends mom did them for me and only charged for the supplies. I copied a design 1 company asked $500 for 100 invites on exactly) - $136.00 for 118 invites

    Garter, bra & undies for the dress in white - $75.00

    Bachelorette party ( I helped pay to get what I wanted... including a party bus) - $600.00

    Plane ticket home - $315.00 for a one way ticket

    Fiance driving home then both of us driving back - $650.00 for gas

    I think I've forgotten many things but there is way too many small things people forget about.

    I still would have rather gone to Hawaii or home to Puerto Rico!!! Lol!!!

  3. affordable.

    We are getting the reception (5 hours, unlim. drinks, dj, cake, and catering) and ceremony at the same place for all under $6,000. Couldn't ask for a better deal. and the place just spent $500,000 on remodeling the whole bldg. so its beautiful. so happy. all we have to provide are the guests, minister, and photographer. and us of course. My dress is around $400. and the favors and invitations i am making with my maid of honor and mothers( mine and soon to be mom-in-law) But it will be small - 150 people.....nothing too big. Our honeymoon will be in tahoe for a weekend away less than $1,500. But cant wailt. January 16th, 2009.

  4. I'm not totally sure what the cost will be, but we'd like to do it for no more that $3500.

    Small white wedding chapel, about 50-75 guests, and then a reception at the little bistro across the street with just lots of hors d'oeuvres, sparkling cider and champagne (and soda, etc), and wedding cake and coffee.

    I already bought a very simple dress for about $150, but I'm not sure it's glamorous enough for my wedding day.  My two bridesmaids will probably be wearing something green or black, in cocktail length.

    My fiance is wearing a suit and tie, I'm not sure what color, though.

    For a honeymoon, I'm not sure yet! Maybe a road trip to the beach.

  5. We did a civil ceremony for about $150 total, with a great white outfit I shopped my closet for, and a veil I got on eBay for $11(with shipping), and flowers from the grocery store.

    For our formal ceremony this fall, the theme is Venetian Carnivale;

    The ceremony will be in a gondola on a canal at the Venetian Hotel for $800, including a $140 credit toward the flowers;

    My gown looks a lot like the one in my theme photo;

    The rest of the flowers will cost about $80 more, and our reception will be al fresco with champagne splits and carnival cakes served in picnic boxes. After the ceremony, we're all going to put on carnival masks and make a procession through the hotel to the outside.

    GB- You're not fat, you're lush and full. Guys like that!

  6. Mostly small. Will be held between Christmas and New Years during the week. Morning wedding followed by reception.

    It will be one of two things: a wedding/reception at a restaurant in St. Paul or a small chapel wedding with appetizer reception at our home. 30 guests.

    There are advantages/disadvantages to both venues.  The small chapel wedding is in rural MN, so a fair amount of driving for guests. However, no time restrictions and I can pick all the appetizers, so can have special diet options.  I will also make the cake.  Guests can freely visit each other.  We get to do the cleanup.  St. Paul, at that time of the year, tends to have limited parking due to snow banks.  There is a time limit on the venue and it doesn't lend itself for guests to visit other guests due to the tables.  One menu, with the exception of an optional vegetarian plate. They will make the cake.  They do all the cleanup.  Either of my options actually end up costing the same.

    In either case, I plan to have a burgundy/gold dress (making myself) and my guy will wear an ordinary suit with a vest that matches my dress.  No attendants (avoids hurt feelings).   Invitations a la Michaels and our printer.   Photography will be fairly limited.  I only want a few good portraits to choose from. Candids will be done by family members.    Honeymoon will be in late January.

  7. My wedding is going to be in Key West, Fl. on the beach. I'm planning it myself, because the packages cost too much for c**p I don't want. My ceremony should be maybe $500 including officiant, steel drummer, aisle runner, canopy, seating, canopy over guest seating, tiki torches, flowers/sea grass to line aisle. I'm doing alot DIY. The reception will be $5000 tops, at a beach resort and will include appetizers, a few hours bar, and dinner. I still have to figure out the DJ and photographer situation. I already have my dress, it cost $130.

  8. Becoming One, on the Shores of Galilee

    Our wedding shall flourish by the ancient sea, of a ravishing sun o'er a silken sky, while flutes and winds grace her cherished mystery. Looking into each others eyes, we exchange those sacred vows. Now that love has prevailed, upon the trembling waters we will dance, till our cup runs over and flowers bloom... in the land of A Father's Promise.

    GB...I think I'm fat too... And from a medical standpoint I am because I'm so short...at 5'2 my doctor says I should be about 115 pounds...I'm far from that BUT my fiance loves me and thinks my curves are s**y and he doesn't like 'skinny' chicks lol... Your man is probably the same way, he wants a woman with curves. Besides, my fiance always says 'never trust a skinny cook' lmao
