My 8 year-old child is going to camp for the first time. I know it is only three days. Needless to say I am nervous about sending her. I am worried something may happen to her and mom won't be there .Any advice?

  1. Hello, I've worked as a camp counsellor the last 2 summers and kids loved it!

From my own experience, and having worked with other camp counsellors, the kids were OUR responsibility, and I would've never let anything bad happen to one of my kids. Just make sure that the camp they're going to is safe, I'm sure they would let you go and observe for a bit to see what it's like.

If she's 8, she should be ok for only 3 days. Don't let it show that you're nervous about sending her, because she will start to feel nervous and won't enjoy the camp experience. I absolutely loved camp! And if you both stay positive, she will too.

If anything were to happen to her, they would contact you right away, but remember that the staff there feel responsible for your child and want her to be safe as much as you do. It'll be ok!

  2. Awww, poor you. I get sad when I put my boys to bed, so 3 days may really upset me.

When I gave birth to my younger boys, I was staying in hospital with them for around 6 weeks. I missed my other boys so much, but my babies needed me.

I made up for it, when my Husband came into hospital and I went home with them.

Just try and keep your self busy, do that extra clean and finally finish reading that book. Finger crossed the time flies by for you.

  3. I was 12 when I went to church camp,I remember chasing boys,a kid drowning in the pool, and the bus being late to pick us up.You should also find out the name of counseors and check them out on watchdog.com.It is a sick world and you cannot be too careful.personally I think she is too young.but if you really want her to go buy her a trac phone $20.00 and pre pay for minutes and have her to call and check in and she may have it if there is an emergency.

  4. She's going to be fine!

I know it's really hard for parents to send their child of to camp, but just think of all the fun she's going to have!

If anything does happen [not saying it will], they have trained camp leaders. Hopefully, they'll have a phone, too, so if she must call you for some reason.

    Don't worry so much!

And when she comes home- she's going to have a lot of storys for you.

    Good luck! :)
