  1. Oh hello hello.

I say, I thought the seventies were quite "groovy", ahah ha ha.

  2. Great.  Great music - mostly.  Fleetwood Mac, JJ Cale (okay, forget ABBA).  Emerson Lake & Palmer.

Women were moving away from the submissive image, they were being allowed to stretch.  It was okay to feel strongly about things and fight against sexism, racism.  Those were still battles that were being fought.

Great clothes!  Platform shoes a mile high, miniskirts to maxi skirts.  Perms, shaggies.  Blue eyeshadow.  Everything brown, beige or cream!

There were drugs around, mostly cannabis.  People who got drunk were despised.  There was crime - this was the time of the Yorkshire Ripper.  People weren't politically correct and didn't live in fear of being sued.  Much more practical.

I should iamgine life was much harder for minorities, or the disabled.

I loved the seventies - we used to party on the beach.

Around our ears South Africa was burning.  It was very frightening.

  5. It was hard, no electricity, cars, planes, t.vs or phones, but we managed some how.

  6. For me the seventies was a wonderful time. Lots of fun, great music, bell bottoms, hot pants, cute boys. I was a teenager so I didn't worry too much about the rest of it.

  7. Well as a kid it was much simpler.  Not so much pressure at school however only the Strong survived out on the playground.  If you sucked at the sport you didn't get picked for the team, end of story.

A lot less TV channels and a lot more fatty foods but kids went out side much more often then.  I didn't know what g*y was until I was in high school.  There was a lot less information for kids as well.  A lot was different...

  8. "The decade began with a continuation of the hippie look from the 1960s. Jeans remained frayed and the Tie dye was still popular. The space age look was on the wane, though tunics and Indian fabrics continued to be popular. Jeans rises shrunk to 4 inches or even less as "hip huggers" with "bell-bottoms" became the height of denim fashion. altering the appearance of jeans with bleach and tie-dye techniques, embroidery, and metal studs were popular as well. Polyester "doubleknit" fabric was coming into its own, with many clothing items for men and women being produced in this modern easy-care fabric. By the mid-Seventies, as the economy improved, silhouettes narrowed, and hemlines dropped again from mini skirt to midi--mid-calf length--to maxi, ankle length, with all three lengths enjoying almost equal popularity. Platform shoes with soles 2-4 inches thick became the style for both men and women. Men's ties broadened and became more colorful, as did dress shirt collars and suit jacket lapels. Fashion influences were peasant clothing, such as blouses with laces or off-the-shoulder necklines, inspired by those worn in the 17th century. Yves St Laurent introduced the peasant look in 1976 which became very influential. Skirts were gathered into tiers and shoulderlines dropped. Clothing became very unstructured and fluid at this point. Embroidered clothing, either self-made, or imported from Mexico or India also enjoyed favor.

    !!!!!!!!!!!

"The 1970s decade refers to the years from 1970 to 1979, also called The Seventies. In Western cities primarily , the focus shifted from the social activism of the sixties to social activities for one's own pleasure: drug use, all-night dancing at discotheques and swinging parties. The seventies were considered by Tom Wolfe as the "Me Decade." A notable exception was the tremendous growth in environmentalism. It should be noted that many of America's smaller towns had a decidedly tamer experience in the 1970s.

The perception of the established institutions of nuclear family, religion and trust in one's government continued to lose ground during this time. Major developments of the sexual revolution included the awareness of the impact of contraceptive pills on social-interactional relationships, and an increase in divorce rates, single parent households, and pre-marital s*x. By the end of the decade, the feminist movement had helped change women's working conditions. The g*y Rights movement became prominent, and the hippie culture, which started in the 1960s, peaked in the early 1970s and carried on through the end of the decade. The United States' withdrawal from its extensive military involvement in Vietnam and the resignation of Richard Nixon helped bring about a sense of malaise and mistrust in political authority.

The United States experienced an economic recession, but the economy of Japan prospered. The economies of many third world countries continued to make steady progress in the early 1970s, because of the green revolution. They might have thrived and become stable in the way that Europe recovered after the war through the Marshall Plan; however, their economic growth was slowed by the oil crisis."

  11. It was great, we played outside all day and night untill our parents screemed or whistled for us to come in around 10 pm.  There was very little to worry about, we left our bikes out on the lawn all night and walked all over town and never picked up a phone unless we were trying to win a radio contest.  Hard to compare to today, but thanks for making me remember.
