  1. It was fairly awful. For one, your relatives are dying because new diseases are still killing off natives. Second, whites are killing you for subordination and dumb insolence. Thridly, your religions are being crushed under the heel of Catholicism.

  2. true, mission life for the natives was miserable.  somehow these foreigners seemed intent on breaking their tradition and way of life and impose theirs instead.  this is disgusting.  initially,  they felt that christendom meant killing off older, pagan cultures and forgetting how xtianity itself has adopted so much roman pagan rituals.

    using religion to suppress a grp of pple is unthinkable and to create hatred agst original traditions is unbelievable.  

    they were told to stop learning their language, adopt foreign names,  change even their eating habits.
