The Frenchman choked spectacularly. Leading on the 18th hole of the final round, he only needed a double bogey on the 18th to win, and he'd already birdied the hole twice on previous rounds. But with his second shot he hit the grandstand and the ball entered the rough, and his third shot sent the ball into the Barry Burn. He ended up finishing the hole with a triple-bogey seven, which meant a play-off with Justin Leonard and Paul Lawrie, which Lawrie ultimately won.
