  1. Through being a princess, Diana became known as a fashion icon and as the supporter, president or patron of many, many charities. She is remembered for her work with AIDS charities and for the removal of landmines.  She was also the first commoner (although the daughter of an earl, she legally was a commoner) to marry an heir apparent or presumptive to any of the British thrones since Anne Hyde.

Diana is also known for the scandal of her affair with James Hewitt, which she admitted to in her infamous Panorama interview in 1995.

Diana was titled and styled HRH The Princess of Wales because her husband, HRH The Prince Charles, holds the title "Prince of Wales" as his highest title. The title is the traditional title for the heir apparent (usually the eldest son) to the English throne and its successor realms (Great Britain and then the United Kingdom) since 1301.

Wales was incorporated into England when the last native prince of Wales, Llywelyn the Last, was killed in battle in 1282. Wales is now one of the UK's constituent home nations.

  2. Diana was noted for her sense of style, charisma, humour and high-profile charity work, yet her philanthropic endeavours were overshadowed by her difficult marriage to Prince Charles. From the time of her engagement to the Prince of Wales in 1981 until her death after a car accident in 1997, Diana was one of the most famous women in the world—a pre-eminent celebrity of her generation. During her lifetime, she was often described as the world's most photographed woman. To her admirers, the Princess of Wales was a role model—after her death, there were even calls for her to be nominated for sainthood.

Actually, she was legally titled as "Diana, Princess of Wales", not "Princess Diana" as the media had a habit of saying. Rather than addressing her the proper way, the media started to refer her as "Princess Diana", which is incorrect. She is not a royal princess in her own right, but rather, a courtesy title which was bestowed upon her when she married Prince Charles. Her full title and styled upon marriage was "The Princess Charles Philip Arthur George, Princess of Wales and Countess of Chester, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, Countess of Carrick, Baroness of Renfrew, Lady of the Isles, Princess of Scotland." In addition, since she was married into royalty, all female will enjoy the feminine equivalent title and style of that of their husband. Therefore, Prince Charles was titled and styled as "His Royal Highness The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales", and Diana was titled and styled as "Her Royal Highness, Princess of Wales." Although, she never truly held the title of "Princess Diana", she will always remain The People's Princess in everyone's heart.

  3. She broke the tradition of palace rigidity by being closer to the people.  She's one rare royal gem who openly show her caring side to the unfortunates and lift up the true sanctity of being a royal princess.

May I correct you, it's Princess of Wales (not whales).
