  1. Texas wasn't exactley known as Texas it was apart of Mexico at first. When it was admitted as a state on March 1, 1861 it was apart of the Confederate States of America who were all against freeing slaves. Along with South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and many other southern states.

  2. Just about the same as any other Southern state, I'd expect.

  3. Texas became a republic after winning it's Independence from Mexico in 1836. Nine years later in 1845 it became a state. Texas left the union in 1861. As far as slavery Texas was no different than any other slave state. The main cause of the civil war were states rights issues. Slavery did not become an issue until 1863 when it looked like France and England would throw their support behind the Confederacy. After Lincoln made it an issue France and England could not support a slave owning south.

  4. Texas was a part of Mexico, that rebelled against the Mexican government, when Mexico outlawed slavery, in 1829.

Mexican efforts to free slaves played an important role in the formation of the Republic of Texas. It was largely fueled by the desire of " Gringo" slave owners to retain their chattels
