What was that bad smell in london area from?

i walked out today and it smelt awful, i live in purley just by croydon. i've talked to most of my other friends and they all said they can smell it too.

I could smell it too, around the Uxbridge area - Brunel University!?!

Capital FM are trying to work out what it is - they've had lots of people text in, so it's not just us... hmmm...

I live in Putney and could smell it the second I walked outside this morning.

It smells like manure, coincidentally there was a truck full off soil driving down our street so I assumed it was that but then on Virgin Radio; JK and Joel were talking about it trying to get people to dial in and explain why it was there, they spoke of something like mock spreading or muk laying or something like that, something farmers do, they suspected it was that in the outskirts surrounding London.

Doesn't make a lot of sense but thats the best explanation I've heard so far.....
