What was that bug in my room? Is it dangerous?

I need a little help. There was a bug in my room last night (I took it outside) and I don't know what it was. It was about half a centimeter, looked a little like some kind of beetle, and was black with yellow stripes. In fact, it reminded me of a hairless, tiny bee, but it looked harmless. Can anyone help me?
