What was that sound? Paranormal maybe???

Question

Well like last night, i was home alone and it was around... 11 or so at night? And I was in my computer room (it was off) and outside I heard the strangest thing. And by that I mean the scariest. It was a howl, but like a cross between a ferret's bay and that of a sick coyote. Now outside my house is a medium yard surrounded by woods on one side. I did not go up and look because i was too terrified.

Does anyone think they know what it was? Y'know, to rest my fears? (im the biggest scardy-cat ever)

ohh lol. yea my friend heard it too apparently after a few days i heard it too. i thought it was pretty funny at first until i realised it wasn't going to stop so i couldn't go to sleep ==

coz u live near the wood its probably just some animal in pain.

My friend described it as a constipated cat yowling in pain....

It was a rabbit caught by a predator.I'm betting that's what you heard.We would hear howls like the one you describe from time to time.I found out what it was when my dog cornered a rabbit.It ran and escaped but the screaming it did was unbelievable.One mystery was solved

Coyotes and/or wild dogs have the most q***r yelps or howls. It's a social thing for the dogs. Ghosts have little to do with big sounds, they're more like wispers in the wind. Stay inside packs are dangerous!

I think you and I must be neighbors.  Similar sound here, roughly the time you describe, happened twice about five minutes apart.

Eventually, I decided it must be a dog.

Edit:  Must have been the sound heard around the world then.  I'm in NM.

it may be a creature of the night because in romania a man was attacked by an invisible creature and then he was left in the middle of the street in fron of his house and he heard that the creature goes to his vis-a-vis neighbour and next day his neighbour was found dead

An American Red Fox, while in heat, will make a horrendous noise that will scare most people.... Im sure thats what it was...

Maybe it was a cat.

They howl when they are in heat. It's very loud and sounds like the animal is dying.

I would guess it might be a fox or even an Owl.

Well, even in NJ there are coyotes, they can live in urban areas and be invisible by slinking in the shadows. You really may have heard a coyote. I got ssooooo scared once when there was a sound at my front door, and I called my friend because I was too scared to move and look. She told me the wind had picked up a lot and sure enough it was the wind.

Once as a kid, we heard banging outside and DID look, and saw NOTHING and are still convinced it had to be paranormal since it was rocks banging and it was a warm nice night.

So, I am guessing you heard a cat, a coyote, or the wind.
