Abolitionists are for the ending of slavery.  Early abolitionists set out to make slavery illegal.  Today abolitionists fight to put illegal slavery to an end.

Abolitionists wanted to end slavery in America.  Famous personalities include Harriet Tubman who operated underground railroad to smuggle slaves to Northern free states, and Harriet Beecher Stowe who wrote the serialized novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin", telling the sad story of a slave who was sold up the river.
