  1. The Arabs had been struggling to get the European colonists (mainly France & the UK) out of the area, & establish modern independent Arab countries.

    They had opposed the formation of the State of Israel. To them it's like the British are moving out only to have the European Jews in as if the colonists are switching shifts. So, countries like Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, & Lebanon sent their troops to take over the land, especially after the massacre of Deir Yasin.


  2. They promised to drive the Israelis into the sea, and encouraged Muslims and Palestinians living in the new State to move out of the way while they did so.  They severely underestimated both the Israeli will to survive, and the US intention to support them, as they hadn't supported Jews in the late 30's while they were trying to get out of Germany.

  3. The 7-days war, Isreal won.

  4. They were sure the vote in the united nations was going to be in favor of Isreal, so they had armies ready to invade as soon as the vote was official.  There responce was war
