I would appreciate any information anyone can find on how the DeLorean faired in crash tests and what kinds of ratings it got.

I have seen the you tube footage of the 40mph crash test but would like some more detailed crash analysis and ratings information Thanks!

  1. The DeLorean (my favorite car) had to perform well in the crash tests.  John DeLorean wanted it to be safe.  Hence the large bumpers.  The prototype had airbags.  The production models didn't have airbags because at that time they were a bit pricey.  And the car itself was already overpriced as it is.  I can't remember but, I think that the book "DeLorean Stainless Steel Illusion" had some info in it. Or even the book, "DeLorean Gold Portfolio" might have some info you want.  I cannot remember.

  2. I found this and maybe you have already seen it but I will keep looking and maybe find something else.

You have a "pre" production DeLorean. DeLoreans made for public release began with numbers VIN#0652 (or there about).

You must have one of the  cars that was made to test the quality of the production line and to train the workers.

DeLoreans made from VIN#500-652 were tested by the U.S.  government (crash tests, regulation compliance, etc...) and all of these are suppose to have been destroyed as well.
