  1. The onset of the Ice Age was the major deterioration of agriculture in the stone age. It put the people and animals that survived the Ice Age on the move again and dependent on hunting and gathering for their food supply.

  2. If you had to use one cause that was the real clincher on agriculture, and it happened a number of times, it would have been climate change. This planet goes threw periods of colder temperatures and that equates not only to cold in some areas but drought in still others. Seems every time we got a leg up on farming, the climate would throw us. Seemed that South East Asia probably had the most enduring agriculture and it was probably due as much to luck of the draw when it came to change as to the advanced culture and eastern philosophy toward, well, everything. One problem people have is that when they get hungry, they start to fight, in huge numbers. That makes a thing that much worse and pushes back the calendar. Nothing like going to war because you are hungry and miserable, and lets burn their crops! That will fix 'em!

  3. Neolithic times of the stone age (about 12000 years ago) is about the time where agriculture started to arise and gain predominance over hunter/ gatherer societies.

Cultivation of plants began to arise during this time. This was not the deterioration of agriculture but the beginning of agriculture- based society.
