    Agriculture in India in the 17th century was not very highly productive. But generally the villages were self sufficient in foodgranis and vegetable production. Cities and towns were few and small. The population was also small at that time. So, agricultural prosperity then was more of natural phenomenon: low population, low urban demand, large area available for cultivation.
