What was the best hand held video camera of 2006?

I'm writing a script and one of the characters is proud about his video camera. He talks about its' stats. If you were a tech junkie in 2006 what camera would you own and how would you boast about it? I don't know anything about electronics. :(

Since we're talking personal grade, go with a brand and stick with it.  He may have a Panasonic or RCA Widescreen "HiDef" Hard Drive camcorder as well, though these aren't necessarily the best available (quality-wise) he could also brag about how it's the same type used in filming Starship Troopers 2.  Otherwise, I'd recommend picking any Sony or  miniDV camcorder series and sticking with it.

If both of these are too big, go with the Flip Video camcorder.  It was first introduced in 2006 with the second model (and current) in 2007.  It held 60 minutes of low-quality in comparison to today (YouTube quality), but still was fairly descent for its first release.  It's stylish and sleek in an iPod kind of fashion.
