  1. regular illnesses and falling off their bikes.  Kids didn't have that much to worry about.  At least that is what I heard from my grandparents.

  2. I grew up in the fifties and can not remember any risks to children, except of course the usual illnesses.  We used to roam all over the place, having picnics, swimming in the river etc.  We could be gone all day and our parents never needed to worry.  Wish it could be that way today.

  3. maybe abuse

  4. Being of that age group, I'd have to say that no seat belts, riding in the back of the pickup and having ALL the adults around me smoking were the BIGGEST risks. Having survived cancer - 6 years now, and 5 of my cousins also, it was a large factor. I don't remember any one getting hurt, except for a broken bone or two, on a bike. Cars seemed to watch for kids. Everyone seemed to move at a slower pace. I do remember a friend being molested by her father tho. Parents were more heavy handed but kids weren't as wild... at least we weren't... until the 60's hit!

  5. Infection.
