  2. The Columbian Exchange usually refers to the foods and products that became known to the Old and the New Worlds because of the European voyages of discovery and European colonization. From Asia spices, rice, tea, coffee, wheat, porcelain, silk, etc  became known to the New World (North and South America). From the New World corn, sugar cane, tobacco, peanuts, cocoa, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc became known to the Old World (Europe, Asia, and Africa).
