They used the conventional hi.lo method for the bsic counting part, but they also had dedicated team members that specialised in something they called ace sequencing, which is predicting when an ace was about to be dealt based on the cards that came before it and what they had seen the previous shoe and what happened during the shuffle.

They also employed shuffletracking techniques which are ways of placing the cut card such that you manipulate cards you whitnessed being dealt in the previous shoe to places in the new shoe that are favorable to you, or simply so that they will be dealt and you knwo where and when they will be dealt.

These advanaced techniques help to genrate extra positive ev situations that would not be experienced with counting alone. and is part of the reason they claimed their edge was so high

The MIT team used the plus 1 method. 2,3,4,5 and 6 are +1 - 7,8,9 are zero and 10,J,Q,K and A are -1.

They were VERY good at it. It takes a lot of practice, but it can be done successfully.
