What was the difference between a boy and a girl bird?

I have this baby bird I found lonely on the street with no family to be found. Well it is tiny and very fast we think it is a quail but it doesn't have that cirly thing on its head. Can somone tell me what's the difference.

A little more information please, like color of feathers etc. There is more than one variety of quail, such as the California quail or the Bobwhite quail.
